Yesterday was Owlet’s first birthday! I can’t believe how time flies, can she be six months old again, please??
I wanted her birthday to be all about her, so a couple months ago I started thinking about things that she liked and would enjoy doing at her party. I came up with a storybook party theme, bubbles, an arts and crafts station; with coloring books, chalk and finger paints (which didn’t end up getting used, but that’s ok), and a ball pit! I made a “Happy Birthday” sign and a tablecloth out of old book pages and Owlet’s aunt made the adult and kids-other-than-Owlet cake! We also had a table set up for people to write out well wishes for Owlet’s eighteenth birthday time capsule and to make her an alphabet book! People loved being able to create a page for her! About thirty people came and it was so much fun. Here’s some pictures of the highlights, I hope they give you inspiration for stuff you can do at your babies first birthday!
Owlet’s first smash cake, made by me, and I’m quite proud of it! I used this recipe with vanilla frosting it tasted like banana bread with a hint of blueberry. One thing with this recipe is that it makes a lot, as you can probably tell from the photos. Owlet ended up eating less than half a corner piece but it ended up working out because she ate it for breakfast for about a week!
These were the signs we used for the alphabet book and time capsule. Everyone looks so serious in this picture but it generated a lot of laughs.
This is the beautiful cake made by Owlet’s aunt! Isn’t it gorgeous? I made her smash cake but this was definitely better.
My goal for this party was to make sure Owlet knew it was about her and I think she understood that at least a little bit, so success! She had so much fun playing with new friends and everyone was happy watching the kids have fun. Exhausting day complete! ..until next year..
