She took a step at eight months old! It wasn’t a fluke either! She has been working on her balancing and muscle strength by pulling herself into a standing position. All that work has, apparently, paid off because SHE TOOK A STEP! My little eight month old baby is walking you guys! Well… stepping and then face planting, but close enough right? Here’s a video: (please note, there is intentionally no sound)
BabyCenter.com has an awsome article about this particular milestone. It is very helpful when trying to figure out ways to help your baby learn to walk! As you’ll read in this article, things like baby jumpers, etc will NOT help your baby learn to walk! In fact they’ve been shown to be detrimental to muscle strengthening and are not recommended at all. Of course it’s ok to have and use one. But do not put your baby in it all the time with the belief that it’ll help your baby learn to walk! The best thing babies can do is crawl around on the floor and pull themselves up, this way their muscles get stronger. They won’t get strong if they’re sitting in a bouncer all the time. Please read the articles linked above they will help you begin your research on this very important topic.
Update 10/10/15: A little over a week after this video was taken Owlet is now walking about ten steps before falling over!
11/10/15: Month later (after first update) and she is trying to run! She gets about five steps into her run then falls.
11/30/15: Less than a month after our previous update and my almost ten month old has basically mastered waking! She now only crawls if she’s going over a step. She is currently trying to concur the fast walk on tip-toes, and running.
